What are affiliates?

Affiliates are individuals who refer customers to a business. They can do this personally or through links from their website. The affiliate receives a percentage of the sale that results from their referral.

Most affiliate systems are designed around the CPA (cost per action) model so that the affiliate is only paid for referrals that result in actual sales, as opposed to the CPC (cost per click) model, which incurs a cost regardless of whether there is a sale or not.
