What is a CMS

What is a CMS?

Robert Maxim's Content Management System (CMS)[1] is primarily a website maintenance tool for non-technical website users. It allows people who are not familiar with HTML programming or web-design to be able to easily update and add to their own website content. Our CMS also allows for multiple users, who can be grouped into "roles", like 'managers' and 'editors', that have different permissions and website responsibilities.

What does that mean for you?

  • You'll be able to create or edit any and all pages on your site using a word processor-like editor—think easy.
  • Your site will use a formatting style that maintains a consistent look and function. When a new page is created it is automatically configured to fit into the rest of the website. No messing with HTML or style sheets.
  • Upload graphic images, photos, or PDF files which can be linked within your website with no HTML knowledge.
  • Granular security - assign specific website editing duties to certain departments or staff.
  • And a lot more, too.

Our CMS is a hosted solution. This means we provide the CMS software and hosting of the system. We do all the technical work and you focus on your website. Hosted CMS websites are easy to implement and can provide a wide range of advanced features that could cost tens of thousands of dollars to custom build. In comparison to a custom designed website your up-front website implementation costs are very inexpensive.

What will a Content Management System do for you?

Save you money!

Whether you or we do the editing, a CMS website will save you money. Rather than hiring someone with web coding skills, anyone who can use a word processor can edit the content of your website. Even if you get us to do the work the process is so fast and easy it saves you big bucks.

Faster setup of new features

Want a new function on your website? Most times it is much easier to make it happen with a CMS. No more huge development costs for features that are full of programming bugs. A CMS has many optional features and functionalities built into the system. It is just a matter of switching them on and configuring for your use. No more building from scratch!

Simple to operate

With a CMS, you simply log into your website, choose the page you want to modify, and change the content as easily as though you were changing a word processing text document.

Powerful Features

Content management systems include powerful features for managing the creation and management of content.

Smart Economics

Significantly reduce your website expenditures. Content Management Systems are especially created for non-technical users, but with the power advanced users expect.

Smart Security

You control who has the rights to edit certain parts of the site and certain web applications. You'll have as much control as you need.

You can keep the same system while updating or adding new content when your business needs change. Our system is built to handle thousands of pages with ease. This protects your investment and greatly extents the life of your website.

Need something unique? Your business requirements change? Our system is built with a modular structure that allows easy plug-in for new functionality.

Most companies are frustrated with their web sites. They don't understand why they cost so much and seem to do so little. They don't understand why it takes weeks to get simple changes made to the site. They don't understand why it's so hard to add new pages or take off outdated ones. With a CMS you have the control and ability to make changes quickly and at any time.

Web technology that is friendly for everyone on your staff to use!

[1] A content management system (CMS) is a computer application used to create and edit various kinds of digital media and electronic text. The content managed may include computer files, image media like photos and graphics, audio files, video files, electronic documents (PDF, etc.), and Web content.

Robert Maxim uses a web content management system (WCMS) which is a CMS designed to simplify the publication of Web content to websites. In particular our system allows content creators to submit content without requiring technical knowledge of HTML or the uploading of files.

Unlike website builders like Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe Dreamweaver, a WCMS allows non-technical users to make changes to an existing website with little or no training. A WCMS typically requires an experienced computer programmer to set up and add features, but is primarily a website maintenance tool for non-technical website administrators.
